About Nilsen Woodworking
We are a small custom woodworking shop located in southern Maine building cabinets, built-ins, and interior
trim for high-end homes, in addition to designing and making one-of-a-kind furniture
pieces.
We are known for, but not limited to, special rooms such as libraries, home
offices, bar areas, and media rooms. These are designed to service each
client's unique needs.
Species of wood used vary from poplar and maple for paint-grade pieces
to the basic hardwoods (cherry, mahogany, birch, maple, etc.) for stained rooms and
furniture pieces. A wide variety of figured veneers and some of the more readily
available exotics such as bubinga, tulipwood, lacewood, and purpleheart are now being incorporated
into our work, especially in furniture pieces.
The design process involves meeting and working with the builder, client and/or the
interior designer to achieve a design objective, and then usually doing a set of drawings
and mock-ups as needed to finalize the design.
We have been in the woodworking business over 30 years and exclusively in the high-end
custom market the last 18 years. We are known for meticulous craftsmanship and
attention to detail. All projects are well planned
before any constuction is begun to assure that they function well.
Our mission is to provide the highest quality workmanship at a reasonable cost. All
our work is constructed to endure the use of many generations. Tradional colonial and
shaker styles and values strongly influence our design.
We respect and treasure the woods we work with; a little bit of our hearts and souls
goes into everything we build.
